This year our Professional Learning Community decided to do collaborative projects with ELL students. We wanted to incorporate technology as part of their learning. My ELL teacher and I decided we would have a small group of students make a Power Point about their life. We wanted them to share things about their culture. Their homework involved talking with their families about these things. We expected them to do a technology presentation and an oral presentation.
Session1: Listen to Time for Kids book: Kids Around the World. This book was loaded on the library computers. Each student listened to the book. The book shows children from different parts of the world. There are maps of the countries where they live. There are pictures of the food they enjoy.
Record: After listening to the book, they can read the book aloud and record themselves reading. Then the teachers can go back and listen to see if they are pronouncing the words correctly. The children love to hear themselves.

Session 2: Research The students need to find out where their parents were born, favorite foods, celebrations, and languages spoken at home and at school. We sent home a graphic organizer to be filled out for homework.
Session 3: Set up a Power Point Slide Show. Each student chooses a background color and style for the slides. Save the number of slides they will need.
Session 4: Adding Text to the slides.
Session 5: Finding and saving pictures and maps.
Session 6 : (Optional) Teach the use of different transitions between the slides.
Session 7: Practice the Oral Presentation
Session 8: Students give their oral presentations while they moved through their Power Point. (Optional: Video the presentations.) We graded each one using a rubric. Students graded each other and their own project.

Problems we encountered: Different students were absent on different days so we had to repeat different sessions to individual students. Some of the students didn't complete their homework so they were unable to type any text onto their Power Points.
